The cover of The Guide is based upon Rembrandt's beautiful painting, The anatomy lesson of Doctor Nicolaes Tulp, painted in 1632, and now housed in the Hague.

I like to think that these wonderful men, their faces filled with concentration, bewilderment and amazement, are no longer in the seventeenth century. They could just as easily be learning anatomy in 20 years time from a computer generated virtual body. By then, computer and communication technologies will have disappeared into the background, and be a natural and unremarkable part of the lives of students and healthcare workers alike.
